Techniques offered by our therapists:
Cupping
This form of treatment involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. It functions to lift muscle tissues and draw blood to the area. Although popularized in recent years by athletes and celebrities in the media, this form of treatment has been sited as one of the oldest treatment interventions by many sources.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is used to treat musculoskeletal issues such as sports injuries, repetitive strain injuries, and more. It involves applying sustained pressure using deep and slow strokes to your inner layers of muscles and connective tissues to help treat muscle pain and improve mobility.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is offered using either water heated basalt stones, or hot and cooled jadestones. During a hot stone massage, stones are incorporated into treatment to allow for deeper pressure with less discomfort. The heat from the stones will increase overall relaxation and release of tension being held deep within the muscular tissues.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
Just as the name states, this form of treatment includes the use of specialized tools to manipulate different tissues in the body. It is based on the principles of cross-friction massage and utilizes various direct compressive stroke techniques. It has been clinically shown to improve range of motion, strength and pain perception.
Jin Shin Jyutsu
This form of healing originated in Japan and is considered the art of releasing tensions caused by various symptoms in the body. Several energy pathways exist in our bodies and when one of these pathways becomes blocked, this can lead to discomfort or pain. This art will awaken your awareness to the fact that we have the ability to balance and harmonize ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle yet firm sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.
Pre and Postnatal Massage
Weight gain and postural changes during pregnancy can lead to severe discomfort and decreased mobility. Massage therapy can help reduce stress hormones in the body while reducing discomfort, increasing circulation and improving mobility. Prenatal massage will include positional modifications and pregnancy specific body pillows to ensure comfort and safety for both mom and baby. Massage therapy is equally important in the postnatal stage as the demands of a new baby can again lead to postural changes and stress. Don't forget to take care of you!
RAPID Neurofascial Reset
RAPID is a manual therapy technique used to quickly and effectively eliminate pain. It addresses the central nervous system's role in alleviating both restrictions and tension within the body. Areas of concern are treated by combining precisely directed depth and tension with patient movements. If you wish to experience this form of massage, please dress in loose-fitting, comfortable clothing as you will remain fully dressed during treatment. As the name states, patients will usually experience a rapid response to treatment.
Rattan
This type of treatment involves the use heated bamboo, which is rolled over muscle tissues to not only help decrease pain, stiffness, and stress but to also increase mobility. Although fairly new to Canada, this type of treatment has been used in deep tissue work in other areas of the world for many centuries.
Reiki
This Japanese technique focuses on stress reduction and relaxation while promoting healing. It is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us, and if this energy is low it can lead to sickness and stress. It is administered by "laying on hands" and treats the whole person including body, mind, spirit and emotions. It is a safe and natural method of self improvement and spiritual healing.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a practice that involves applying pressure to specific pressure points on the body to not only decrease pain and tension but to also increase circulation. Although the word "shiatsu" is translated to "finger pressure", a therapist may also employ the use of their hands and elbows to treat the area of concern.
Thai Reflexology
Reflexology is the application of pressure to specific areas of the feet, with the purpose of producing an effect elsewhere in the body. Because it is based on the premise that specific reflexes and zones on the body are linked to specific body parts, applying pressure to that area can affect the corresponding organ, gland or muscle. It can reduce stress, anxiety and pain while lifting one's mood and improving one's overall wellbeing. Thai reflexology is also usually accompanied by a massage of the calves, hands and feet.
Visceral Manipulation
Visceral Manipulation (VM) is organ-specific fascial mobilization and is based on the premise that free movement of the organs within the body is vital, and thus any restriction will adversely affect health. It evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion and suspension in relation to organs, membranes, fascia, and ligaments. The purpose of VM is to re-create, harmonize, and increase proprioceptive communication in the body to enhance its internal mechanism for better health, thereby revitalizing a person, and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture.
